I have been privileged to learn a few social instruments throughout my life, and I have loved learning all of them. These instruments include my voice, the guitar, and the piano. Some of these instruments I have just recently started, but some of them I have been using for my entire life. These instruments are key tools to help me excel in my music teaching career, as well as be the entertainment I can turn to for leisurely time. I am also looking forward to improving my skills on all these instruments in order to keep them at their appropriate importance and experience.
My voice has been my most important and developed instrument out of those I have learned. Ever since I could talk I have been singing, it came naturally to me and I am thankful for that. I sang throughout my life in choirs and in churches to develop my voice, and also simply for fun. I feel that I have a matured voice, and have practiced to make it be so. Being in voice lessons has developed my voice even more thought. I have enjoyed and grown with the help of voice lessons during school and believe that in order to keep developing my voice I need to continue them. My voice teacher has helped me also to develop proper practicing techniques so I know I am practicing correctly. As for what I must do this semester and my career, I believe that it is necessary to practice singing everyday to keep my technique strong and voice developed. I will take care of my voice by not harming it as well as by staying healthy. This involves not screaming or singing inappropriately as well as eating healthy and wearing the appropriate clothes to keep myself active. I will use proper approaches to singing and not put myself at risk of losing my instrument.
Another instrument I have as a social instrument is the guitar. I am not nearly as developed in guitar as I am in voice, but I want to learn guitar a great deal. I have always had an interest in guitar, but not taken the time to learn it. Now that we are learning it in MusEd, I will get the chance to learn the basics, which will make it easier to learn more complex pieces and tunes. I know that this semester I must practice and follow instruction to develop the skills I desire to play. I will also use those skills to learn songs to bring together friends and family at reunions or parties. This instrument allows for enjoyable leisure time and the opportunity to continue playing throughout my life.
Another instrument I will take as a social instrument is the piano. I have not had the amount of practice or instruction on this instrument as I have with my voice, but I have had the basics. My piano musicianship is not developed in the ways I wish it were already, but I will practice to make that improve. By being in band for eight years, I can read music very well, but my skills of reading and playing both hands at the same time are not as developed as I would like them to be. In order to become the experienced pianist I wish to be, I know that I must practice a great deal and attend my piano classes. Doing this will allow me to have instruction on how to play properly, and in turn help me to practice properly.
These social instruments I have developed have plenty of room for improvement, but I believe I have done well on establishing them as social instruments that I will use in my career and years after that for fun leisure time. I will work hard on practicing these instruments in order to achieve the level of expertise I desire. These instruments will help me to grow as a teacher also, to help my students learn to use these instruments as well. By continuing my practicing on these instruments, I will mature more and more as a musician.
